Wedding Rings
Placing wedding rings one each other's fingers is
one of the most important elements of the marriage ceremony. The
bride and the groom help each other put on the wedding ring while
swearing their love for the other. Wedding rings symbolize a bond
between two individuals coming together and making a commitment
to one another.
Wedding rings are a lasting memorial to this commitment.
The Egyptians were the first people to wear wedding rings on their
left ring finger. It was believed then that the left ring finger
contains the love vein, which goes directly to the person's heart.
Since wedding rings will be upon the couple's fingers for most
of the time, showing the world of their commitment to each other,
it is important to select bands of value and meaning for both couples.
Traditionally, a man's job is to buy the wedding ring for the woman
and vice versa. Some couples purchase the wedding rings separately,
while others go and shop for the rings together.
While it may be more romantic to shop for the engagement ring without
the other's input, it's always best to talk to your fiancée
about purchasing wedding rings before buying. Go together and select
the wedding rings that both of you feel a connection with.
It is advised to set your wedding ring budget before entering the
jewelry store and stick to it. Otherwise, your credit card bill
will still reflect your wedding rings even after years of marriage,
which is not a good way to start off a life together.
Some couples choose 14-18k yellow gold for their wedding rings.
This is actually an excellent choice, as the most budget-conscious
couples out there will attest. Other couples may choose 24k gold
rings, although the 14k is tough, more durable and less expensive.
The groom may wish to select a masculine man's
wedding ring and choose something such as titanium. A titanium
wedding ring is certainly more expensive so be prepared to spend
a little more money for this manlier ring.
Some women may want to the Hope diamond or other large diamonds
upon their fingers. On the other hand, those on a budget may want
to downsize the diamonds and instead do something that is more personal
r than expensive. For instance, you can always engrave your names
under the wedding rings.
Adding other information such as your favorite saying or a message
to your loved one is a more economical and personal alternative.
Most of the couples engrave their wedding date on the inside of
the rings and other information may be added as well. Just be advised
not to try to write a novel underneath the wring or the engraver
will have a hissy fit.
If you do make the decision to have your wedding rings engraved,
make sure you purchase them at least four to five months in advance.
Like your wedding dress, it should be ready to go at least a month
before the actually wedding date.
Four to five months will give you enough time to send your wedding
rings to an engraver and check them for accuracy before the ceremony.
Though corrections to the actual engraving are rare, it's always
better to be safe than sorry.
All in all, it should be remembered that wedding rings don't need
to be expensive to be memorable. A personalized wedding ring, which
you chose together, is a grand way to start a new life together
and that's what it's all about now isn't it?
