Wedding Poetry

Wedding poetry is a way to spice up a ceremony and give it personality and the unique identity of the bride and groom. With wedding poetry it is possible to convey a me-to-you message that is intimate, meaningful and which will be remembered forever.

In a typical wedding ceremony, there is a part where the clergy will conduct the wedding rites and read the vows to the bride and the groom of whom the two must adhere upon during their life as a husband and wife.

But, if you and your future spouse want to express undying love for one another and would like the world to know that one cannot possibly live without the other, then a specialized vow in the form of wedding poetry needs to be crafted for the bride and the groom to recite before a clergyman and guests.

Not all of us are gifted, however, with putting pen to paper. Although most of us are good in writing, this is only limited to prose and not in poetry. But, you do not have to be a poet in order to create wedding poetry that can make your other half cry out of happiness and love for you. Do not let fear hinder you. Below are simple ways to create that breathtaking wedding poetry, even if you are not a poet.

#1 Write down what you feel in prose

Since most of us can write decently in prose, start writing the wedding poetry in prose. Do not mind yet the poetic value of the writing. Focus on what you feel, of what you would like to tell your future spouse.

Also concentrate on what you want the guests to know about your other half and what made you fall in love with him or her. Just write naturally. Don't edit anything yet. Editing will come up later when it is time for you to make the prose into sparkling wedding poetry.

#2 Think about rhythm and rhyme

When you have poured your heart out onto paper, it's now time to bring out the Juliet or Romeo in you. With written prose, you will have down in front of you the gist of what you are trying to say. And then, transform this message into something with rhythm and rhyme.

If you would like a flawless poetic cadence, read about the patterns in poetry, the ABAB or ABBA rhyme scheme, and use it as a guide. It is not necessary in wedding poetry to keep to perfect rhyme. The important aspect here is to pay attention to what you feel and deliver it clearly to your future spouse. You can use your ears, recall that fifth grade English and use your instinct when you are aiming for a flowing rhythm and rhyme.

#3 Polish the words

After crafting the wedding poetry with a smooth cadence like that of falling rain, you may now polish the words to make them more succinct and on message. Change your adjectives, adverbs or nouns when necessary with something more eloquent and befitting to the message that you would want to convey.

You can do this by using a Thesaurus, rhyming dictionary or regular dictionary. Choose among the many different synonyms available for certain words and select the most appropriate words for your perfectly eloquent wedding poetry.

No matter what, though, remember that the message is the main element to focus on. Even if the wedding poetry isn't perfect, the sentiment will be and that is what you're mainly trying to convey.
