Wedding Napkins
Wedding napkins are one of the cheap ways to add
a very personal touch to your event. The main purpose of wedding
napkins are to tie color and theme into the whole reception motif.
Wedding napkins should reflect the theme
of your wedding and fit with the décor. A good place to start
would be matching them to the cake
topper or invitations.
Common designs found on a wedding napkin are doves, wedding bells,
rings, hearts, flowers, champagne flutes, cake, scrollwork, crosses,
and monograms.
If your reception will contain
original artwork, you can go with that design on the napkin, first
obtaining a sample napkin from a print or graphics company.
When selecting the wording for the wedding napkins, you'll be given
a handful of script and calligraphy designs, along with a few plain
block text options. The napkin lettering should match the lettering
on the invitations. If your napkins are a dark color, foil is the
better option than black ink since dark ink won't show well on a
dark napkin.
Gold or silver foil lettering is appropriate. If the napkins are
going to be light-colored, than any dark ink color will work. This
is the cheaper option. Couples also sometimes go with two-color
napkins, with one color being their event's theme color, and the
other being that color's "partner or compliment" for contrast.
Several popular options of where to get wedding napkins are bridal
dress shops, printing and graphics studios, and online. If you're
purchasing your napkins at the same place you get your invitations,
you might be able to get a discount. Wedding napkins can also be
rented through your caterer, or the reception site might offer wedding
napkins as part of their whole package deal.
The traditional look for wedding napkins is usually white or ivory.
From there, you can personalize them with such wording as the couple's
first names and the date of the wedding, the couple's two full names,
or the couple's new monogram, which is the bride's first initial,
the couple's last initial, then the groom's first initial.
For those who want less traditional napkins, teal or lavender napkins
are a common selection. Slate gray or fresh green are also two ways
of making the wedding napkin look fancier and unique. As far as
being different in your napkin print, it's more than appropriate
to put on a quick thank you note to your guests or a small poem.
Wedding napkins can be placed at more locations than just at each
seat's place setting. They can be at the cocktail bar, the cake
table, the buffet, and among the dinner plates. While not the main
focus of the reception, wedding napkins provide a nice accent to
help tie the colors and theme of the event together.
