Wedding Cakes
Wedding cakes are in demand, particularly every June
for upcoming receptions. From simple to a double-layer wedding cake
to multi-tiered fondant, each couple unceasingly looks for the perfect
pastry for their once in a lifetime occasion. Gone are the days
when wedding cakes were normally white or ivory and multi-layered.
The traditional shape of round and rectangle cakes are still acceptable,
though there are more options right now.
Modern designers give the would-be couples the freedom they need
to design their own wedding cakes. After all it is their cake, the
central decoration at their wedding reception.
But the couple does have the dilemma on how to select the wedding
cake that will work well for their purposes. There are a wide variety
of wedding cakes from which to choose. The designs are endless,
which only adds to the anxiety of the couple.
There is a way, however, to avoid a wedding cake disaster. With
enough planning, providing a perfect wedding cake is not as hard
as it looks. The very first thing you need to know about wedding
cakes is that these bakery items take more time to make than regular
birthday cakes.
Depending on the design, most cakes will take more than a day to
complete. Just to be sure, meet the wedding cake designer two months
in advance to talk things over.
Carefully discuss what you want and what you envision the cake
to look like and taste like. Two months is more than enough for
your baker.
Taste test some samples from the baker and make sure that both
you and your soon-to-be spouse agree on the kind of wedding cake
you want and its design. As the wedding date gets closer, check
from time to time with the designer about the progress of the cake.
When you visit your wedding baker, you'll most likely already know
the location of the reception. If you're planning to celebrate outdoors,
remember that cakes melt in the sun or just in warm weather.
Stay away from ice cream cakes or mousse in warm weather conditions.
Instead of a delicious wedding cake you'll get a fallen cake with
melted icing. Another option is the keep the wedding cake refrigerated
until the very last moment. This way warm weather will have minimal
impact.
On cutting the cake, if you think you're not good at it, it's always
better to opt for rectangular or oval cakes. These cakes are easier
to cut and serve. Many couples don't want wedding cake mishaps showing
up later on video and will choose cakes that are easy to serve for
this reason.
The couple also needs to pay attention as to how they will feed
each other the first slice of wedding cake. Many psychologists and
sociologists say this very act can predict how the rest the marriage
will go. If the couple feeds the wedding cake to each other gently
and with respect, then it will be a relatively smooth marriage.
If one or both of the couple pushes the wedding cake into the other's
face, even in jest, they are in for a stormy marriage.
Lastly, double check the total number of guests to your wedding.
Make sure the cake is large enough and cut in a way that there are
more than enough wedges for all the guests.
Remember, with enough planning and preparation, a perfect wedding
cake is not that hard to achieve and will be a focal point for pictures
that will last a lifetime. So, choose wisely upfront, check with
the baker often and make accommodations for the weather and your
wedding cake like the reception itself will be picture perfect.
